Micdrop Closed Mac beta

Say what you mean.
Get Taiwan Traditional Chinese.

Micdrop is voice input made for people in Taiwan. Hold a key wherever you can type, speak, and let go. Your words land in the writable field focused when the result is ready, written with the characters and wording Taiwan uses. English works too.

No new window, no switching input methods. Speak right where you are.

  1. Put your cursor where you want to write

A chat, an email, a note or a document.

  2. Hold Option and speak

Start at the sound. To skip holding, tap once to start and tap again to stop.

  3. Let go, and text lands where you are

You can switch windows. When the result is ready, text goes into the safe, writable field currently focused. If no suitable field is available, use Copy.

Questions

Can I download it now?

Micdrop is a closed Mac beta for invited testers. There is no public download, signup or purchase yet.

Which account do I need?

By default Micdrop uses the ChatGPT account you are signed in to in Codex on your Mac for speech, tidying and translation. Other online speech services may need their own account and may charge separately.

Is this an official ChatGPT integration?

No. Micdrop is an independent app and is not affiliated with OpenAI. The default connection is not a public official service and is not guaranteed to keep working. You can choose another speech service.

Does it understand Taiwanese Hokkien?

There is no specific Taiwanese Hokkien support. Chinese results use Traditional characters and Taiwan wording, but recognition can still be wrong, so check before you send.

Can I use it fully offline?

Speech can use Apple's built-in recognition (macOS 26 or later) or recognition on your Mac. Tidying and translation need the internet, and the beta checks its authorization online from time to time.

Which permissions does it need?

Microphone, to record. Accessibility, for the shortcut and to put text into fields. Whether Micdrop may read on-screen text is a separate setting.

What if the text doesn't go in?

Results are saved to History before insertion. A confirmed insertion refusal offers Copy. If the outcome is uncertain, check the field before copying to avoid a duplicate.
